Culica® comparison with games you know.

We believe that Culica will be ranked alongside chess and playing cards as one of the most important and iconic games in history.

Culica is new and original and cannot be directly compared to other games, however analogies with games you know do exist.

The Culica®

Computers / Games Consoles

Why is Culica® like a computer / games console?

You can play many games on the Culica.

Why Culica differs from a computer / games console?

Culica is not electronic, it is made purely of plastic.

Culica needs no power - no electronics, hence, no batteries. Hence the Culica is "green" (low carbon footprint) and costs nothing, once purchased.

Chess

Why is Culica like Chess?

Some games that can be played on Culica are 100% skill (no random aspect), like chess.

Both have extraordinary depth and subtlety.

Playing area: Chess has 64 squares, Culica has 54 "squares", where pegs can go.

Why Culica differs from Chess?

Chess is a 2D board game, with two colours and two players. Culica is more like a 3D “board” game (where the “board” is a cube) and has four colours.

Chess is difficult to learn. Most games played on the Culica are really easy to learn.

Chess is a single-game, 2-player game. Culica has multiple games, single player and multi-player (up to 12 players!).

Chess is black-and-white - Culica is colourful :-)

Board Games

Why is Culica like Board Games?

You can think of the Culica as a kind of 3D board (actually a cube), with 54 “squares” which are actually slots where coloured pegs click into.

There are many board games: likewise, many games can be played on Culica.

Why Culica differs from (most) Board Games?

With Culica, the pegs stay fastened in place. Therefore the Culica lends itself well to travel, playing in bed. Also it's perfect to play in bars or parties, as people can play it, and pass it from person to person without things falling off, or things getting messed up, as happens with board games.

By joining Culicas together in various ways using the pegs (see picture for an example) you have the option to customise the Culica game. You can change the size. and indeed shape, of the "board" or playing area in an unlimited number of ways.

Playing Cards

The vision of the Culica Team is to ensure the Culica is recognised as one of the Great Games of all time, together with playing cards and chess.

Why is Culica like Playing Cards?

Multiple games can be played with a pack of playing cards, and likewise with the Culica. The random aspect of many playing cards games – such as dealing from a shuffled deck are similar to Culica in those Culica games where pegs are randomly drawn from a bag.

There are 52 playing cards, and the Culica has 54 slots, where pegs can go.

Culica has four colours and playing cards have four suits.

Why Culica differs from Playing Cards?

Obviously Culica is physically very different from cards.

Optionally, Culicas can be joined together in varioius ways

Backgammon

Why is Culica like backgammon?

As mentioned above, some Culica games have a random element, akin to the roll of a dice.

Why Culica differs from backgammon?

Backgammon is a 2D board game. Culica is more like a 3D “board” game (where the “board” is a cube).

Backgammon has two colours and two players. Culica has four colours and 1 to 12 players.

Backgammon has a difficult-to-remember set-up. Most Culica games have no set-up to remember! (e.g. no pegs on the Culica when the game starts). Other Culica games have a simple set-up.

Tetris™

Why is Culica like Tetris™?

Both are single and multi-player.

Both have strong geometric aspects to game play.

Addictive :-)

Why Culica differs from Tetris™?

Tetris™ is a one-game game. Culica is a many games game, you can play many different games on the Culica.

With Tetris™ - Single-player difficulty is usually altered by increasing speed. Although you can play speed Culica (perhaps with a chess clock or stop watch) single-player difficulty is altered by playing different games and variations of those games.

Tetris™ needs a source of electricity, unlike Culica.

Puzzle Games

Why is Culica like Puzzle games?

You can solve puzzles on the Culica (We will publish one each week on the Culica website!)

Why Culica differs from Puzzle games?

Culica is as much a competitive game as it is a puzzle game. You can also play multi-player games on the Culica.

You can also do other things with Culica, see below.

Other Existing Games

Why is Culica like other existing games in general?

Culica is a game, and you can play many games on it.

Why Culica differs from other existing games in general?

You can make artistic patterns on it.

You can analyse and invent mathematical problems on it.

You can use it as a stress-toy. Plugging in those pegs in a clicky kind of way is very soothing, a bit like popping bubble wrap!

Why is Culica Unique?

It's the worlds first (that we know of) 3D, multi-game, single-player, multi-player, multi-coloured game. The Culica will revitalise people's love of games.
